8/1/2023 0 Comments Icarus wings![]() This method, based on decades of studies in applied neurophysiology of second language acquisition, will increase the student's learning curve resulting in better overall results. The advantage of this structure is that flight crew can learn the language used in aviation in the morning, and in the afternoon put it into practice in up to 10.5 hours of work in the simulator. ![]() Unlike other language proficiency courses which are all classroom based, these courses are divided into both classroom and training in state of the art FTD flight simulators - Boeing 737-800 and Airbus A320 (from the summer, 2018). The three courses were put together by an experienced Flight Crew Licensing Instructor, also a member of the International Civil Aviation English Association, with several years of experience in the field of Aviation English training with major airlines in Europe. ICARUS Wings is an innovative set of advanced language proficiency courses for all flight crew delivered by professional instructors at Groundschool London. The result was the 3 courses presented here. Based on these studies, I was able to implement innovative ideas which brought both classroom training and hands-on training together. Audio Visual stimuli are very important in learning as is content based instruction and educational kinesiology, so to be effective, language training should focus on these areas. This was instrumental in understanding the fundamentals of language and subject learning. One of the areas that I studied was Applied Neurophysiology of Second Language Acquisition. These have all helped in developing and creating these courses. In addition to this, I also have a degree in Advanced Second Language Acquisition Methodology. I also have quite an extensive background in travel, tourism and aviation. I have also gained many years of experience in teaching specialised areas of the English language - medical, legal, financial, academic, business - to name just a few - and, of course, aviation. As a qualified TESOL English Language Instructor I have many years of experience teaching the English language behind me. So what's the difference with 'ICARUS Wings'? ![]() This is one of the reasons why many pilots fail the exams and are only able to obtain an ICAO Level 3. The result? There are too many Aviation English courses being offered by unqualified centres and instructors. On the other hand, there are many language schools around the globe offering these courses who haven't the faintest idea of how to implement these courses, and believing that any ESL teacher can deliver them. These documents have aided many language centres around the world in setting up efficient courses to train flight crew for their language proficiency exam. In addition to this both EASA and ICAO have produced pages and pages of documents and guidelines outlining the standards and requirements in 'Aviation English Training Programmes' and 'Implementation of ICAO Language Proficiency Requirements' (Cir 323 AN/185 and Doc 9835 AN/453 respectively (produced by ICAO)). For this, ICAO stipulated that the minimum required level in Aviation English Language Proficiency for a pilot to be operational is 4 out of a possible 6. Their objective in this area is to have English as the lingua franca in aviation, and a standard of phraseology to be used in this field. Welcome to the world of ICARUS Wings Advanced Language Proficiency Training for Flight Crew, a world first in presenting innovation in the training of flight crew - pilots and cabin crew.Īs organisations such as ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation), EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency), FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) and ICAEA (International Civil Aviation English Association) look at improving various areas of civil aviation standards, one area they have a very keen interest in is language proficiency.
